This truly impressive square farm is a former dependency of the Herkenrode Abbey. There is another facade stone with the coat of arms of Abbess d'Oultremont, year 1736 and slogan: VIRTUS CORONAT OPUS. It dates from the beginning of the eighteenth century. This farm was originally owned by the Herkenrode Abbey. The current complex dates from 1736. After the goods of the Abbey were expropriated in 1796, the farm and surrounding lands fell into the hands of the Count of Duras, who sold it on to private individuals. The farm was protected in 1981. The year 1736 can be found above the entrance gate, where the motto of the then Abbess de Rivière d'Aerschot can also be found: Virtus coronat opus (virtue crowns the work). The farm has been rebuilt. Originally it would have stood approximately 100 meters from its current position, dating roughly to the 13th century. Today it is owned by the Gilot family, who care for and cherish the heritage. The Gilot family bought Casselaer in 1906. The same family was also active in the Kozen municipal council from 1911 to 1976. Dr. Gilot was the last mayor of Kozen, to which Kortenbos belonged, until the municipal reorganization in 1976, and lived on this Casselaer farm.
