Monument unveiled in 2008 in honor of the battalion to which Harry Patch belonged, the 7th Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.
In the early morning of August 16, 1917, this battalion crossed the flooded Steenbeek (exactly at this location).
Harry Patch was seriously injured. After a year of rehabilitation, he was sent to the front in Ypres again in 2018.
It was he who later took the initiative to erect this monument, in commemoration of his comrades-in-arms and everyone who had sacrificed themselves here.
