Heaps of explosives were stored in barrier houses (extremely thick concrete walls, usually fairly well-hidden bunkers in the forest).
This was planned for the underground barrier systems on roads during the Cold War - in case Russia attacked.
The entrances to the bunkers consisted of 3-4 doors arranged one behind the other. The first was a lattice door with bars as thick as a thumb, the second was an approximately 15cm thick armored door with a special lock and the third was a thick sheet steel door (gas pressure door). If the amount of explosives to be stored exceeded 5 tons, another armored door was added inside.

This location was chosen because the Umschwang was intended to be blown up in case of defense until the end of the Cold War.
