Long before 1934, at the suggestion of Pastor R. Mikulaschko from Prein, the construction of a mountain chapel on the Raxalpe near the Karl Ludwig House was considered.
The construction costs were estimated at about ATS 20,000, -. To get the necessary funds together, blocks were sold to 50 groschen. The planned laying of the foundation stone was postponed time and time again, most recently until the 2nd half of May 1935. In the middle of April 1936, the "Association for the Construction and Conservation of the Raxkirchlein" finally agreed that construction should start. The necessary demolition and preparation for the construction were taken on June 15, 1936. The reason was transferred to the ÖTK for free. Master builder Hermann Kubacsek built the chapel according to the plans of the architect Edmund Zacher.
On September 20, 1936, she was solemnly consecrated by Cardinal Archbishop Theodor Innitzer. Approximately 1,500 guests attended the celebration. The Preiner Männergesangsverein performed Schubert's "Deutsche Messe". A company of the independent artillery regiment Payerbach made salute shots

The small chapel is located about 200 meters south of the Karl Ludwig House. It was built to commemorate mountain climbers injured in the mountains under the direction of speleologist and president of the Austrian Tourist Club (ÖTK) Domprälat Alois Wildenauer. Although the church belongs to the Diocese of Graz-Seckau, it is subordinate to the Viennese parish Prein (Vicariate: Under the Vienna Woods). Every year mountain masses of various parishes are held.
