The neo-Gothic parish church of St. Gertrud in Blegny is a historically significant house of worship that was destroyed several times in the 20th century by the World Wars and rebuilt in 1961. The place gained sad notoriety in August 1914, when German troops executed the local priest and the mayor there. Today, the church stands peacefully in the village center on the Place Sainte Gertrude.
