A romantic birch avenue with old wayside shrines leads from Bad Königshofen through the meadows of the Saale to Ipthausen.

The pretty little church, which was rebuilt between 1746 and 1754 in the Rococo style, is considered “one of the most beautiful village churches in Franconia”. The quiet little church owes its great popularity primarily to the magnificent ceiling painting by Georg Anton Urlaub, which unmistakably shows the influence of the famous Venetian painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo reveals.

The Ipthauser miraculous image, a Pietà from around 1650, is rather simple amidst the lavish Rococo furnishings and is still the destination of many individual pilgrims and groups of visitors today. The Painful Mother type in particular invites you to bring up your personal needs, worries and pain in order to leave feeling strengthened and hopeful.
