The long-distance cycle route leads from the Saale source east of Bad Königshofen i. Grabfeld to Gemünden am Main. Cyclists can expect a varied landscape, historic towns, cozy little places and diverse landscape panoramas. While the first section to Bad Neustadt an der Saale does not always run parallel to the river, the rest of the section is more closely aligned with the river's course. Historic town centers in Hammelburg and Gemünden am Main invite you to take a break. Bad Kissingen is well known as a classic spa town. The first spa guest was recorded here as early as 1520. The long-distance cycle route should not be confused with the Saale cycle path, which begins in the Fichtel Mountains and, after running through Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, ends at the mouth of the Saale in Barby on the Elbe.
