Jaume Plensa's twelve-meter-tall sculpture called Julia arrived at the Plaza de Colón in December 2018. The work of the famous sculptor, with the sponsorship of the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation and the collaboration of the Madrid City Council, is located on the pedestal formerly occupied by the statue of the Genoese navigator and will in principle remain there until December 20, 2023.

This sculpture, made of polyester resin and white marble powder, will allow for the first time that the 2013 Velázquez Prize for the Arts, Jaume Plensa, will exhibit a work with these characteristics in Spain. The choice of this artist, with a renowned international career, aims to promote the development of future projects. In the words of the author, Julia wants to 'provoke a moment of personal and intimate reflection within the hectic dynamics generated by public space'.
