John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE, born John Winston Lennon (9 October 1940 in Liverpool; 8 December 1980 in New York) was a British musician, composer and peace activist, as well as an Oscar and multiple Grammy winner. He became famous worldwide as John Lennon and as co-founder, singer and guitarist of the British rock band The Beatles, for whom he wrote most of the songs alongside Paul McCartney. The Lennon/McCartney author and composer partnership is one of the best known and most successful in the history of pop music.
