The church is a branch church of the parish of Donaustadt and is located in the deanery 2 of the Vicariate of Vienna, belonging to the Archdiocese of Vienna. She is dedicated to St. Mary.

The pilgrimage church of Maria Grün lies secluded in the Prater forest in Vienna's 2nd district and is a peaceful place for devotion and remembrance. It was built in 1924 after a Marian devotion had developed in the Prater. The church is simply designed, with a rectangular structure and a small roof turret, and blends discreetly into the surrounding woodland. In the southern area, there is a Stations of the Cross with depictions of the Holy Sepulchre and a relief of the Mount of Olives. Today, Maria Grün is also a place for AIDS ministry and quiet remembrance.
