The defense of Corfu against the Turks in 1716, led byschulenberg, is one of the most famous achievements in modern military history.
As a thank you for his outstanding deeds, the then Republic of Venice decided to build a monument to him on Corfu during the war year of 1716.
The marble statue was created by the sculptor Antonio Corradini.
