For heaven's sake, what is man doing up there ?!For many it is a well-known sight in Esslingen and for the local residents it is simply part of it, like the Neckar. A high school, a clinic and a street in Esslingen are named after this tower. It is also one of the last three surviving gate towers in the city ... We are talking about the Schelztorturm.
It is believed that the tower was built in the 13th century. It got its name from the Schelch family, who owned a farm nearby. At that time the tower was part of the city fortifications. At that time, the Schelztor marked the northwest corner and served to protect the walled Pliensauvorstadt. Many, many years later, the Schelztor still remained as the city's tower.

The Schelztorturm is an absolute eye-catcher on Bahnhofstrasse. In summer there is delicious ice cream in the tower.
