The Baptistery of the Cathedral of Ravenna (also known as the Baptistery of the Orthodox or Neonian Baptistery) is the oldest surviving structure in Ravenna, Italy, at least in terms of the start of construction.

It is particularly famous – like the other Byzantine buildings in Ravenna – for the wall and ceiling mosaics inside. Along with the other early church buildings in Ravenna, the baptistery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Due to the high quality of its decoration and its overwhelming overall impression, it is described as the most beautiful late antique interior.

The Neonian Baptistery, also known as the Orthodox Baptistery, is located in Ravenna and dates back to the 5th century. It takes its name from Bishop Neone who continued its construction after his predecessor Orso. The name Orthodox should instead be understood according to the meaning of the time, which meant Christians of "right doctrine" as opposed to the Arian heresy.

It's worth purchasing a combined ticket for five religious attractions in Ravenna. The price includes visits to the Basilica of San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Basilica of S. Apollinare N., the Arcivescovile Museum and Cappella, and the Battistero Neoniano. The ticket price for November 2025 is €12.50. I recommend a ticket valid for five days from purchase.
