To the west of Traunfeld lies the Traunfelder Bachtal. The eponymous Traunfeld stream, which rises in Traunfeld, has dug deep into the Alb plateau here. There are numerous springs on the slopes, which are mostly covered with beech trees, some of which also feed fish ponds. The Traunfelder Bach flows into the Raschbach near Hagenhausen, which flows into the Schwarzach near Schleifmühle.

There were once a few mills in the valley floor, of which today only the names Eratsmühle and Mauertsmühle bear witness. The valley is part of the designated Traunfelder Bachtal landscape protection area (LSG no. LSG-00121.14; WDPA no. 395584).
