    THE BACKGROUND

The jet of water from the Rio Bojone spring was used in ancient times to drive a mill, which no longer exists today, for which there is documentation.

The water from the spring, between the 19th and 20th centuries, was also exploited for the production of electricity, until the 1970s, when the exploitation was handed over to the Municipality of San Pellegrino Terme which used it to power the municipal aqueduct.

The document reproduced in the photograph "On the providence of Water and Fish" attests that already in the year 1625 a certain Maria Sonzogna managed a mill in Val Borlezza on the banks of the stream fed by the "Bagione" spring (Bojone).

THE MIRACLE OF SAINT NICOLA'S LOAVES

"In the year 1625, Maria Sonzogna's mill remained without water because the river current had damaged the source of the Bojone.

The mill stopped grinding and the desperate woman immediately went to the source: when she arrived there she recited five Our Fathers and Aves in honor of San Nicola da Tolentino, bringing some blessed loaves.

At that moment and in the presence of many people, the water began to flow from the Bojone again, until it reached the mill preceded by one of the blessed loaves offered by the woman".

Taken from "De Panellini of San Nicola da Tolentino - CHAPTER V - Of the Providence of water and fish"
