It became a parish, detaching itself from Brembilla, on which it depended since 1920.
It was restored in 1951-52. Since 1986 the parish of San Gaetano di Catremerio di Brembilla has been aggregated to Sant'Antonio Abbandonato.

The village develops along the mule track that leads from the church to the cemetery with some original houses and others renovated.
The Church stands on an eighteenth-century chapel dedicated to San Gaetano, patron saint of Catremerio.
