A Romanesque monastery church was consecrated in 1089. The church was rebuilt after being destroyed in 1233. Under Abbot John III. von Dachsberg (1422-1436) converted the church into a two-aisled hall church. From 1652 to 1656 the church was rebuilt according to a design by Philiberto Lucchese.

Under Joseph II, the collegiate church became a parish church, and the original parish church east of the monastery has served as a cemetery church ever since (Wikipedia).
