Hiking

The Bruchhauser Steine in the Hochsauerland region near Olsberg are a striking rock formation, up to 92 meters high, on the Istenberg and the first National Natural Monument in North Rhine-Westphalia. The four giant volcanic rocks were formed around 380 million years ago and already served as an important cult and defensive site in the Iron Age. Today, the area is an archaeological reserve and a protected habitat for rare arctic-alpine plants as well as breeding peregrine falcons and eagle owls. (KI)
