The monastery church is one of the most important Romanesque churches in the Weser Uplands. After its completion around the year 1000, the pillar basilica was a destination for countless pilgrims. After a brief period of prosperity, the entire monastery complex fell into disrepair and was used over time as a military camp, quarry, and cemetery. The last grave here was that of the "Lügenbaron" Münchhausen in the 18th century. In the 19th century, the basilica was shortened by a few bays and rebuilt as a parish church. It was last renovated in 1960/62. Valuable artifacts bear witness to its eventful history: a pre-Romanesque baptismal font, a Romanesque crucifix, an altarpiece, and precious Gothic sculptures. The organ was built in 1975 by Schmidt & Tiemann (Hanover) and re-voiced in 1990 by Johannes Rohlf (Neubulach), with its seven stops on one manual and pedal. The organ, with its seven stops on one manual and pedal, was re-voiced by Johannes Rohlf (Neubulach) Except during services, the Monastery Church of St. Mary is open for tours from April to September through the Monastery Church Association.

Beautiful building and there are still a few remaining buildings. The place has been inserted in between.
