The gate tower is located in the northwest of the old town of Köthen at the so-called Kleiner Plan on Magdeburger Straße near the corners of Stiftstraße (southeast) and Wallstraße (northwest). The city gate and the street were named after the city of Magdeburg, which is located about 50 kilometers to the north.
