Wellen was badly affected by the Covid virus during the first wave. They were the third most affected municipality and were in the middle of the infection area. This monument by Jan Cox was erected behind the town hall in memory of all the Wellen victims and in honor of the great solidarity at the time.

Today (17/07/2024) I walked past this beautiful monument again and to my regret I discovered that it had been vandalized. Most of the leaves on their stems were warped. It is incomprehensible that someone has so little respect for this. 😪
