The Great Synagogue is the most important Jewish religious building in Bordeaux. The current building, built between 1877 and 1882 under the direction of the architects Charles Burguet and Charles Durand, succeeded the first building that was destroyed by fire in 1873. It is one of the largest synagogues in Europe and has been a listed building since 1998.
The 36 meter long and 26 meter wide nave is fronted by a monumental facade flanked by two towers.
