The Kellersee is the second largest lake in the Holstein Lake District and is beautifully embedded in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park. The shore paths around the lake are popular with cyclists and hikers, and several official hiking and cycling routes pass by here. It can get crowded, especially at weekends.

It is easy to cycle around the Kellersee. Outside of town, there are beautiful forest paths from Bad Malente to Fissau. From Sielbeck to Malente, the cycle paths are not quite as nice and are along the country road.
