Piperi Park is considered to be Suomenlinna's most historically important park. In the 18th century, formal gardens, a water canal and a pavilion were built on the site. At the beginning of the 19th century there was already a pond in the park surrounded by park corridors. In the 1870s the park was remodeled into what it is today. After Finland gained independence, a café for tourists was built in the park. The park was last renovated in 2009.
Unfortunately, the pond does not seem to be deep enough and is characterized by a very high algae productivity.
