Hit the brakes here for a unique piece of railway history!
This atmospheric station building from 1906 is now a protected monument, but it took quite some effort to get it built.
Originally, the residents of Lissewege refused to have the train in their village for fear of fire hazards from sparks from steam trains. It wasn't until the construction of the port of Zeebrugge in 1906 that the white village finally got its own 'station'.

Status: officially classified as a protected heritage monument since October 15, 2003.
Function: today, local trains to and from the coast still stop here.
