That there was a church here in the 12th century is indicated by the surviving font of that date, and the S. wall of the nave, pierced by a later arcade, may be of 12th-century origin. North and south aisles were added in the 13th and 14th centuries respectively.

A quiet oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of York. This medieval church in York's city centre is open every day whether you want to look around, spend some quiet time in prayer or meditation, or attend a service.

St Helen Stonegate is right in the historic city centre of York, on St Helen's Square facing the Guildhall and Mansion House, on the corner of Stonegate leading to the Minster.

Hiking

St Helen's Church was built in the 14th century. It was declared redundant in 1551 and partially demolished, but was later brought back into use and reconstructed between 1857 and 1858.

The church is dedicated to St Helen, the mother of Constantine the Great. It is a Grade II* listed building.
