At the beginning of the 17th century, Idstein Castle was built in the Renaissance style at the time of Prince Georg August Samuel von Nassau-Idstein (1665-1721). The master builder was the German architect, chief building director and master builder of fortresses, Johann Maximilian von Welsch (1671-1745), an important representative of baroque fortress construction. In 1714 the interior work was completed in a baroque style. With the death of the prince, the Nassau-Idstein line came to an end. The principality passed to Prince Karl von Nassau-Usingen (1712-1775). He made Schloss Biebrich (Biebrich was incorporated into Wiesbaden on October 28, 1926) his residence.
The castle was renovated from 1988 to 1992 and today the Pestalozzi School is housed there as a grammar school for the Rheingau-Taunus district. The castle can be visited as part of guided tours (May to October) on fixed dates. Information can be obtained from the Tourist Information in Idstein.

The former residential palace has been used as a school building since the post-war period. I was even allowed to sit here for four years
