As early as 1887, the rear, northern part of the Ratsdelft with the connection to the Alter Graben was filled in and the city garden was created there, so that the Delft as a water arm or harbor basin only extends as far as the Emden town hall. The harbor basin ends there with the Delft steps that were built at the time. After the Second World War, citizens filled most of the Ratsdelft with rubble. [wikipedia]Part of the Ratsdelft is now used as a berth for museum ships. The lightship Amrumbank, the sea rescue cruiser Georg Breusing and the herring lugger Stadt Emden are moored in the harbor. The Delft Staircase now serves as a pier for harbor tours. [wikipedia]
