    Tips

    October 16, 2018

On September 9, 2009, the rest area on the Heuberg was opened in the presence of Mayor Guido Orthen. Since then, the seating area and lawn have been maintained here by the city of Lohrsdorf and the place has been accepted as a welcome resting place for walkers and hikers. The red wine hiking trail and the path to the Landskrone pass here. The path to the castle ruin is an extension of the Ritterstraße, past the “Maria Hilf” shrine, over the high plateau to the volcanic cone of the Landskrone.

The high plateau of the Heuberg on which we are here belongs to the eastern part of the Ahrsattel, which extends from the Rhine near Remagen to the west of Altenahr. This domed plateau is dominated in the west by the crown of the country as a chimney pushed up by the magma, but which did not erupt, a cathedral mountain! Among other things, it caused the collapse of the Ahr saddle as today's Lohrsdorf Köhlerhof valley, into which we look here. The Lohrsdorfer Koppen - on the opposite side of the valley - is the extension of the foothills of the Landskrone, the Heuberges, eastwards to the Rhine at Remagen. The stream that springs northeast of the Köhlerhof found its bed in Lohrsdorf and flowed into the Ahr via the Lohrsdorfer Talaue.
