The Ahr wine-growing region is one of the northernmost wine-growing regions in Germany. It extends over approx. 20 km from Altenahr to Heimersheim. The importance of the cultivation area is based on the production of excellent red wines. The cultivation area with 563 ha is 82.9% planted with red grape varieties (467 ha). With 368 hectares, one of the noblest grape varieties dominates - the Pinot Noir, which finds excellent geological and climatic conditions on the Ahr. The Frühburgunder, an early maturing mutation of the Spätburgunder, has become increasingly important with 35 hectares in recent years. Among the white grape varieties (96 ha / 17.1%), Riesling dominates with 46 ha. Source: ahrxwein.de/pages/weinwachsengebiet.html
