Hiking

The eastern termination of the sprawling Cadair Idris massif is the summit of Gau Graig. From here, steep slopes drop to the gentler pastures below. The main weakness for hikers to exploit in ascent or descent is the northeast ridge, as the surrounding terrain is otherwise steep and awkward. The summit affords excellent views, particularly back towards the impressive Mynydd Moel.

Hiking

At 683 metres, Gau Graig is a UK-recognised Nuttall. It lies on the eastern flank of the Cadair Idris massive east of Mynydd Moel. It is not on the normal classic loop of Cader Idris, so it is not as busy by any means. However, getting to it makes for a great hike coming up from Dolegellau or Ty Nant Car Park. There are marvellous views towards Cadair Idris or northwards towards the Rhinogs from the top.
