The parish church of St. Vitus in Maissau in Lower Austria, with a north-east facing tower and a semi-circular apse, stands on a terraced step between the main square and the castle.

The Lords of Maissau, who resided in Maissau from the beginning of the 12th century, were certainly the founders of the parish. The parish church was destroyed in 1425 during the Hussite wars. In 1768 the church was rebuilt in the late baroque-classical style. The Stations of the Cross, the organ and valuable paraments and cult objects were acquired from the Paulaner monastery in Wiener Neustadt, which was closed in 1785.
