The Braunsberg, together with the Thebener Kogel in Slovakia, represents the Hainburg or Hungarian gate of the Danube. The breakthrough valley at the Braunsberg is a geological link between the Alps and the Carpathians. The Braunsberg is also an archaeologically significant site. The Celts built a powerful settlement on the plateau, protected by a palisade fence (2nd century BC). A small part of the palisade and a watchtower have been reconstructed.
