At this point, the Veltlin cycle path leads through the area of the valley that was completely buried by the Val Pola landslide on June 28, 1987. 53 people lost their lives in the massive landslide and the village of Morignone was buried up to 60 meters high under more than 40 million cubic meters of rock debris. Today you can still see the huge furrow in the mountainside and the terraced and stabilized valley floor still gives an idea of the rock masses that fell down here within a few minutes
