Amathous is a small, interesting archaeological site near Limassol.
Amathous was one of the four city-kingdoms of ancient Cyprus, where, according to legend, Theseus, the hero of Greek mythology, left the pregnant Ariadne in the care of the local women. Amathus was also an important cult site for the goddess Aphrodite-Astarte.
