Very nice town, well worth a visit. The Christmas market in particular is small but nice and there is free parking when there is a Christmas market.

Impulse pilgrimage route Kempen-Tönisvorst to the crucifixion group on the south side:
      "Who comes into my arms?"
Many still know it, either from their own childhood or because we play it with the children ourselves. Open arms - a sign of welcome, of security.
And that's how you welcome us! We can be safe with you: in your love, in your open nature. It doesn't matter whether we're Catholic, Protestant or believers in a different way. It doesn't matter who or how we love.
You had to endure your death on the cross with open arms. And even if the cross reminds me that you suffered for us and gave yourself for us, I also see the open arms and a "welcome" for me.

Around 1200, north of St. Peter, construction of a church began within the settlement of Kempen. As a result, the parish rights were transferred to the new Church of St. Mariae Nativity. It was built and expanded over several centuries. Today the viewer is presented with a Gothic hall church with a tower and ambulatory. The church was richly furnished with altars and works of art by the citizens of Kempen, many of which have survived to this day. After the war damage in 1945, St. Mariae Nativity was restored. Today it is one of the most beautiful churches on the Lower Rhine and is definitely worth a visit. It is open on Sunday afternoons from 3pm to 4pm, Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10am to 12.30pm and afternoons from 3pm to 4pm.
On the outside of the church square "An St. Marien" the old church immunity is clearly visible, the square is still undeveloped today. On the north side stands the monument to Thomas à Kempis (1380-1471), a famous mystic and spiritual writer. On the south side stands a crucifixion group, which invites prayer even when the church is closed.
