Hawnby is a delightful village in an even more delightful setting. Right in the centre of the village here, there is a very conveniently placed shelter, where you can rest, and enjoy amazing views of the hills seemingly rising from the steep road leading to the village.

Hiking

Very twee village that has so many hiking routes in the immediate vicinity. Per Wikipedia: "The village is mentioned twice in the Domesday Book as Halmebi in the Allerton hundred. It was part of the Thornton-le-Moor manor and records local landowners to be Fredegaest and Ulf. After the Norman invasion, the lands passed to the King and were granted to Robert Malet", and "Hawnby became the first village in England to have all of the buildings switch from normal lights to dark-skies friendly lighting in an effort to cut light pollution."
