Nestled in the charming coastal town of Sandycove, the James Joyce Museum housed in the iconic Martello Tower is a must-visit for literary enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

This historic Martello Tower, one of many built along the Irish coastline during the 19th century to guard against potential Napoleonic invasions, gained literary fame when James Joyce set the opening scene of his masterpiece, "Ulysses," within its stout stone walls.

Each floor of the tower has been meticulously restored to capture the atmosphere of Joyce's era. Original letters, photographs, and personal possessions of the author are on display, offering a glimpse into his life and work. The top of the tower provides breathtaking panoramic views of Dublin Bay. 📚🌊🏰

The Martello Towers, built over 100 times on the coast of Ireland to protect the country from Napoleon's fleet and army. Napoleon never made it across the sea, and the towers subsequently stood empty for well over 100 years until the British sold or rented them out.

Joyce never wanted to move in here, but at the time he lacked the means to make a choice...
