The mystic Hermann Joseph von Steinfeld is a Catholic saint from the Premonstratensian order.

As the son of a poor Cologne family, Hermann Joseph became a Premonstratensian canon at the Steinfeld monastery (Kall) at the age of twelve. After training in Mariengaarde (German Mariengarten) near Hallum (Ferwerderadiel), he returned to Steinfeld and was ordained a priest. He then worked in Steinfeld and the surrounding area as a pastor and became the monastery's sexton.

He was best known for his mystical marriage to the Virgin Mary, which earned him the nickname Joseph. Even before he was accepted as a canon, he is said to have brought apples as a gift to the statue of the Blessed Mother in the Church of St. Mary in the Capitol in Cologne. Since then it has also been referred to as the “apple saint” (5Appel Jupp in Kölsch). Traditionally, apples are still regularly placed both on the tomb in the basilica in Steinfeld and under the statue of Mary in the choir of St. Maria in the Capitol.

Hermann Joseph died while doing pastoral care in the Hoven convent near Zülpich.
