The St. Nicolai Church is a field stone church built on a cemetery mound. It was built around 1200 and is dedicated to St. Nicolaus. Its church tower is said to have been 230 feet high (approx. 70 meters) after it was built and even served as a navigation mark for ships on the Elbe, because it was even higher than the towers in Otterndorf and Altenbruch.
