Originally, the “Tithe Barn” was located at this point, a place where the citizens and farmers of the city of Wetzlar had to pay the “tithe” (the tax).

After years of a wide variety of uses, in 1976, as part of the renovation of the old town, the former public building “Zehntscheune” was completely renovated with the existing historical structure and reopened to the public as a restaurant.

Together with the monument preservation additions, a place was created that contributed to the distinctiveness of the existing cityscape and is rightly referred to as the “gateway to the old town”.

In 2004, the “Zehntscheune” fell victim to a devastating fire and could temporarily not be used as a restaurant.

Thanks to the excellent work of all the craftsmen involved, the building was restored to its new splendor.

The new name “Ludwig’s” is intended to create a connection to the great son of the city of Wetzlar, Professor Ludwig Erk, who made a name for himself through the collection and transmission of German folk songs and was born in the immediate vicinity on January 8, 1807.
