At the beginning of the 18th century there was a windmill on the Saalberg above Sonneborn. The grain was brought to the Saalberg with great effort. The windmill was in operation for around 150 years. Later, the company was probably no longer profitable because operations were discontinued. In the 1960s, the remains were converted into an observation tower, which is now known as the "Windmühlenpott" or "Windmühlenstump". The stump of the windmill offers a magnificent panoramic view of the upper Bega and Hummetal, the Weserberge and the Teutoburg Forest. When the weather is good, you can see the Köterberg in the south-east and the Hermannsdenkmal in the south-west. Climbing the tower is free.

The tower is always open and offers a very nice view of the surroundings. There is a small parking lot nearby. The last few meters are exhausting and you might have to push your bike. There is also a rest area next to it.
