The Gosson terril is located on the border of the municipalities of Seraing and Saint-Nicolas. It is a nature reserve consisting of 9,500 thousand cubic meters of waste from industrial activity. The site now consists of a nature reserve, a bird sanctuary and an educational garden. The Gosson terril offers a beautiful view of the city of Liège and its surroundings.

Hiking

The history of the Gosson slag heap dates back to the end of the 16th century, when coal was already being mined near the current mining site. In 1830 a concession was granted on the territory of the municipalities of Montegnée and Jemeppe. In 1838, 2333 people worked in one mine that was in production at the time. Later, the concession was expanded and new production shafts were built. In 1877 the company consisted of two large mining sites: Gosson I and Gosson II. Both mines had underground connections to air shafts in Jemeppe
