The inn “Zum Weißen Lamm” can look back on more than 500 years of history. The first documented mention is from the year 1497.
In 2022 the 525th anniversary was celebrated.
During the Thirty Years' War, Swedish officers camped here in the inn and drank their mead. It is highly probable that General Albrecht Wezel Eusebius von Wallenstein also stayed here at the "zum Weißen Lamm des Freies Bergs Hohenberg". Napoleon's soldiers are said to have stopped here and had a good drink.
Later, the castle estate also served as an imperial post office. Historians estimate that even Goethe stopped here on his trips to the nearby Franzensbad for his spa stays.
