The temple is unique in its splendor and beauty.
Impressive because it is the second oldest and second largest monastery in Bhutan.
    Worth a visit.

Punakha Dzong or "The Palace of Great Happiness" is located at the confluence of two rivers, Po Chhu and Mo Chhu. The monastery was founded in 1637 by Ngawang Namgyel, who was the first to unite the warring valley kingdoms in Bhutan under a single rule. He was later called the first Zhabdrung Rinpoche in Bhutan, a title of the high lamas of the Drukpa lineage from Tibet.
Punakha Dzong is the winter residence of the Je Khenpo, the highest religious dignitaries of Bhutan. Every year, on the first day of the tenth lunar month, they move there from Thimphu.
The building complex includes seventeen shrines and temples.
