The square in front of the Trippstadt town hall was formerly called "Weedplatz"; at that time, weed was the name given to artificially created village ponds that were used, for example, as watering holes for livestock. In the second half of the 19th century, the custom disappeared and the weed became a deeper fire pond, which was later filled in and replaced by a fountain.
