The Saint Catherine Church in Kortrijk-Dutsel is the result of several building campaigns.

The Romanesque tower of this church, built in unsawn iron sandstone from the region, dates from the 11th century and is therefore probably the oldest church tower in Flemish Brabant.

The loopholes in the tower suggest that the church also had a defensive function.

15th – 16th century statues adorn the church interior.

The church is located on a raised part of the center and there is a small staircase from it on the street side, there is also an information board for walkers nearby.

The Romanesque tower in iron sandstone is particularly striking, it is one of the oldest in the province and it may once have served as a defense. Above the main entrance you can see a niche in the tower with a statue (bust) in it.

From the cemetery around the church you can see some of the older buildings from above. Some of them, such as the former inn, can be found on the website of Onroerend Erfgoed at inventaris.onroerenderfgoed.be/themas/13574

Also note the information board near the names of war victims with information about the First World War in Holsbeek.

Description: picturesque church of the basilica type: west tower set between the extended side aisles, three aisles of three bays covered with a high saddle roof, projecting transept and choir with flat closure flanked by sacristies.

Small Romanesque tower built of iron sandstone in rubble bond (11th century); four low floors covered with flat ceilings; facade walls provided with loopholes and simple sound holes on the highest floor; bell floor raised during the 14th century.
