Groningen's main station, "built in a virtuoso mixture of Renaissance and Gothic style elements", is one of the most beautiful station buildings in the Netherlands. It is a design by Isaac Gosschalk, which was officially completed on April 16, 1896, although the facade stone above the entrance mentions the year 1895. The building is a national monument.
