'Quota 1045' is the extreme (southern/eastern) tip of the Monte Cengio massif, between Val Canaglia and Val Cengiotta, below Piazzale Principe del Piemonte: here a cave stronghold was built by the Italian military engineers to hinder a possible Austro-Hungarian attack from the west (as happened with the Strafexpedition of 1916).
It also controlled the 'Sentiero delle Postazioni', the fortified defensive line built along a ridge that rises from Cogollo to the Cengio, to monitor and keep the access to the Val d'Astico under fire.
