Forte Campolongo, built in the years immediately preceding the Great War near the border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire (today between Veneto and Trentino), was one of the most modern constructions of the Italian military engineering: together with Forte Verona and Forte Corbin, it constituted the most direct response to the armored belt of the Austro-Hungarian fortifications of Folgaria and Vezzena.

It was soon seriously damaged by Austro-Hungarian artillery and abandoned to the enemy during the Strafexpedition, which kept it occupied until the end of the conflict.

Hiking

It is a fort from the beginning of the last century for protection from the Austro-Hungarian army in the First World War. It is located on the Campolongo peak and can be visited entirely and free of charge. It has recently been restored in some parts. The view you can enjoy over the Assa Valley below is superb. It is accessed through a tunnel dug into the rock.
